The Living End
|
It was more than a decade ago that a Melbourne rockabilly covers outfit called the Runaway Boys wrote a bunch of original tunes and changed their name to The Living End. Ten and a bit years later, that same band have racked up a quintuple-platinum album, two platinum and five gold records, won three ARIA awards, countless other accolades and gathered fans all over the world. What's more important, while some bands seem old and outdated only two or three years after they start, guitarist Chris Cheney, bass player Scott Owen and "new" drummer Andy Strachan are every bit as exciting a prospect as they were way back when it all started. Mia Dyson
|
When people see Mia Dyson live, putting the face and her tiny youthful frame to the voice they have been listening to on record or the radio waves, she usually receives a reaction of surprise.
"She's a guitarist, songwriter and singer, but it's her voice - more guttural than just gravelly, more touched than merely smoky - that is the show stopper. Skinny young white girls aren't supposed to sound this big, soulful and black. " Sydney Morning Herald

The Scientists of Modern Music
|
"The Scientists of Modern Music are an electronic duo from Hobart,
Tasmania that began in a bedroom studio and ended up (so far)
punishing subs the size of their house. TSOMM
are a synth bomb, the fallout being incredible tron pop, beat driven
robot rock and straight-to-your-artery bass drops.
With vocoders in the van, a battery of synthesizers, electric guitar and black
and white suits these two take their audiences on a journey that starts
with a ramp and drives through the still clean disco to the fragmenting
and decaying sounds of the future.
